Die Homepage der Finanzbehörde Hamburg zeigt schön, dass die Bürokratie und das Durcheinander in den Behörden Deutschlands ein Informations-Dickicht ist. Ganz modern führt die Seite typische Fragen und Antworten auf. Und die einfache Frage, “Wann ist das Finanzamt geöffnet?”, beantwortet die Seite kurz und übersichtlich (im Fließtext in ganzen vier Abschnitten) …

Weshalb servieren eigentlich alle Cafés in Hamburg (und oft auch sonstwo), nahezu alle Getränke im Glas? Egal ob (heißer!) Tee oder (heißer!) Kaffee – es wird im stylo-Glas serviert. Sieht zwar schick aus, ist aber nicht zu gebrauchen. Denn man muss schon warten, bis der Kaffee oder Tee kalt ist, bevor man das Gefäß anfassen kann.

With the steps following you should get Ruby/Rails up running with Unicode (UTF8) support. I used MySQL under debian/etch and ferret for full text searching.

Configuring Linux

1. Run ‘dpkg-reconfigure locales’ and be sure to configure de_DE.UTF-8@euro
2. Set de_DE.UTF-8@euro as system-default

Configuring MySQL

1. In /etc/mysql/my.cnf set ‘default-character-set = utf8′ within the [mysqld] section
2. Set ‘default-character-set = utf8′ in [mysql] section also

Installing RMagick under Mac OS X 10.4.9 (Tiger) was really a pain in the ass! There are a few howtos around there, but none of them fully helped me. The support-forum of ruby forge was nice, but not that helpful. Thanks to Tim anyway. That said, here is a quick wrap-up of my odyssey, maybe helpful for others. (more…)
